What makes Sparrow different as a shared ownership Registered Provider is that it was launched as a result of an investment by a single UK pension fund. USS, one of the UK’s largest institutional investors, was established in 1974 as the principal pension scheme for universities and higher education institutions in the UK. It works with around 330 employers to help build a secure financial future for more than 500,000 members and their families. USS made its first investment into shared ownership in 2020.
The Challenge
To build a new website that meets the requirements of home owners and regulators, providing a central resource of information and support for home owners at a time of change. With mobile internet access being the default for more than 75% of the target audience, the site had to be fully mobile responsive, and fully functional on the latest mobile devices.
The Solution
Built and hosted on Umbraco cloud the solution includes multiple page templates and bespoke page features to provide a flexible and scaleable solution that delivers on the project requirements. Adopting a mobile first approach and using imagery that features Sparrow home owners in various situations, the website provides an easy to use point of access for key information and contact options. Future enhancements are already under evaluation to provide additional functions and benefits for home owners, enabling them to carry out key interactions on line at a time of their choice. The website uses ReciteMe as an additional toolkit for users who want to take advantage of the viewing options offered, including font resizing, multiple language translations, and text to speech. With input from teams in the USA and the UK, the website was built to exacting standards and to a tight timeframe in late 2024, with a release date of December 24th 2024.
